March 2016

At the Qatar Shotgun Open in Doha in February, Australia’s youngest and brightest stars demonstrated that they are capable of upsetting some of the sport’s biggest names.

Sixteen-year-old Mitchell Iles (above) from Hurstbridge, Victoria, competed against almost 100 of the best open male trap shooters from around the world, and demonstrated skill beyond his years to finish equal first position.

Iles then went on to qualify for the Bronze medal match, ultimately missing a medal in a tense shoot-off to finish fourth. His powerful performance makes him a possible contender for Rio.

In another youth news, young shooters should note that the next Youth Nationals shooting event is being held at the end of the year
